Lars Oestergaard Nielsen Denmark I have been following the rebuilding plans in the news, and I can't help thinking that something is missing in the discussion.
The
entire world watched the destruction of the Towers on live TV, but when
it comes to rebuilding no one asks people outside the city of NY what
they think??? Yes, of course it's a decision the people of NY have to
make, but maybe it would influence their decision if they knew how much
it means to people around the world. A President says, "America will
win the war against terror", but at the same time America surrenders to
terrorists on its own soil by not rebuilding what was lost. It was the
World Trade Center, and people all over the world felt a great loss and
a deep sympathy for the victims.
Christopher Briggs Norway I
agree with those who want to see your towers rebuilt. Even to the last
second standing, and despite their horrific injury, they yet were able
to make a statement about the spirit behind their construction. To the
last they stood proud, tall - and defiant. So much so that I, whose
first meeting with this wonder of the world was sad when I saw the TV
pictures - was left in awe. They were truly a symbol of the age they
were built in, when as Team Twin Towers aptly points out man walked on
the moon. They mean therefore something much more, because they say
something about the very spirit of mankind. That is why they must be
rebuilt. What Team Twin Towers says about walking on the moon is true,
and I am a child of that particular age. If that aspiration has been
forever lost, I believe many like me are diminished. Even more so if we
are left with the impression that future buildings are smaller because
we now have some respect for murderers. That is why thousands of people
are dead - it was not the buildings' fault.
